The StoSu is the Style over Substance Award, given by me to the shallowest, most self-important, and fakest person or organization. The award is given out at the end of every month.
The first award went to Sophia Coppolla for the screenplay, direction, and media coverage (especially the NY Times Magazine article) of "Lost in Translation." The movie is one cliche after another: Japanese people are small, and they have the wildest prostitutes over there, and man! the way they talk is hilarious.
The next award went to Saddam Hussein, tyrant, mass-murderer and dictator found hiding in a hole. Pretty pathetic.
January 2004's award was a little bit harder to decide: would it be the Hollywood Foreign press, George Bush for that stunning State of the Union address, or Conan's nominee, the media for their overcoverage of Howard Dean's mighty yawp the night of the Iowa caucus. After a little deliberation I realized it had to go to the media.
The winner of both February and March's award is Martha Stewart. She cheated. She lied. She tried to get others to lie. And when it came time to face the music, she tries/tried to squirm out of it. As hard-working people struggle and fail, she attempts to get out of jail, (at Club Fed).
